MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
The Town has an annual maintenance program in place for streets and sidewalks. This program addresses all
routine maintenance covering sign and traffic light repairs, sidewalk maintenance, potholes, road sweeping, ice
and snow clearing and ditch maintenance. All roadside mowing is dealt with by the Parks Division.
MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION
The Town is responsible for all streets and sidewalks within the municipality with the exception of:
- Trans Canada Highway
- 6 Mile Road from Island Highway to Trans Canada Highway
- Admirals Road from the Island Highway/Craigflower intersection south to Hallowell Road
- Helmcken Road from Vickery Road to Watkiss Way
- Thetis-Colwood/Trans Canada Highway ramps
These routes and ramps are the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation, Saanich Area Office.

PARKING

STREET LIGHTING
Street lighting is generally provided in one of two ways: 1.) where overhead power is available, BC Hydro will
supply pole mounted luminaires; or 2.) where underground wiring is provided, then ornamental post top luminaires
are supplied.

TRAFFIC SAFETY AND CALMING
Traffic safety and calming are considered a high priority by Council and staff is constantly seeking ways
to address these very important issues. Local issues should be brought to Council's attention by way of written
communication which will then be evaluated by staff prior to reporting to Council. Click here for more information

TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND SIGNS
Traffic signals are an important part of the road system and are timed for optimal traffic flow.
The parameters are analyzed on a frequent basis to maintain the safety and integrity of the road
system.
