The following information may answer some questions that you may have:

-
There is a sewage smell and/or sewage back-up in my house. What can the Town do?
The first response is to check out your own system. Local plumbers can assist here. If it is determined that there is a problem in the main lines, the Town of View Royal will investigate and remedy the situation.
Contact staff at engineering@viewroyal.ca or
(250) 479-6800 to report mainline sewer issues.
- Who is responsible for clearing blockages in sewers?
Generally the homeowner is responsible for clearing sewer blockages from the house to the property line. If the sewer blockage is on the public side of the lines, blockages would be the responsibility of the Town of View Royal.

- What must I not put down the toilet/drain to avoid blocking the sewer
pipes and the pump stations?
The Town of View Royal's sanitary sewer lines are connected to the Capital Regional District's (CRD)
sanitary sewer system. The CRD's Environmental Services Department has a Regional Source Control
program aimed at reducing the amount of contaminants discharged into the sanitary sewer systems.
The Regional Source Control program accompanies the CRD's Sewer Use Bylaw adopted in 1994. This
Bylaw specifies the types of wastes that are prohibited or restricted for discharge into the
sanitary sewer systems. For additional information, please contact the CRD's Environmental
Services Department at (250)360-3045 or click on
