DRAINAGE
The Town of View Royal has an aggressive fifteen year drainage program. This program is reviewed on an annual basis and is designed to upgrade the drainage systems that were installed prior to the Town's incorporation.



DRAINAGE - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Staff can assist residents and business owners with a variety of drainage related questions. The following information may answer some questions that you may have:

  1. Water is pooling in my yard/ditch/driveway. What can the Town do about this flooding?
  2. Who is responsible for clearing blockages in drainage pipes? In drainage ditches?
  3. Can I close in my drainage ditch to do something like change my driveway location or to create an additional parking area?

    Private property drainage is generally the responsibility of the homeowner however staff are always willing to answer questions in the case of difficulties.

  2. Who is responsible for clearing blockages in drainage pipes? In drainage ditches?

    Drainage pipes on private property are the responsibility of the homeowner. Where part of the Town of View Royal drainage system passes through a property, this will be the Town's responsibility.

  3. Can I close in my drainage ditch to do something like change my driveway location or to create an additional parking area?

    This is a common question and can only be answered on a case by case basis. Staff would need a detailed plan showing the proposed works for an answer to be given.
